Bellaire will reopen two city-operated pools for members’ exercise and therapy for a few hours daily starting Monday (May 11) — but with a long list of new procedures and restrictions to maintain safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lap lanes at Evergreen Pool and the Elaine Wood Therapy Pool will both be available to those already holding memberships, with reservations for one-hour blocks of time offered 24 hours in advance and payment only by credit card.
No more than eight swimmers will be allowed at once in the Evergreen lap lanes, with set procedures to keep social distancing, and no more than two at a time in the lap lanes of the therapy pool.
Toilet and handwashing facilities will be available, but locker rooms and showers will not.
Lifeguards are required to undergo a health screening at the Bellaire Fire Department before reporting for each shift, must wear face masks while on duty, and will clean and sanitize after each swimmer exits the pool
