After a year’s absence because of the pandemic, Bellaire United Methodist Church will celebrate its 10th Blessing of the Animals from 1-3 p.m. today (Saturday, Oct. 16), outdoors at 4417 Bellaire Blvd.
Humans of all faiths can bring their friendly and properly controlled pets — everything from dogs and cats to hamsters, reptiles, birds and fish — to receive an individual blessing from a pastor. The moment will be captured in a free digital photograph provided by Nikky LaWell Photography.
The family-friendly event will also feature displays and interactions with local experts and pet-related businesses, including Faithful Paws, Rover Oaks Pet Resort, Three Dog Bakery, Southeastern Guide Dogs, Canine Companions for Independence and Natural Pawz.
There will be a chance to adopt a pet from six rescue groups — Friends for Life, Westie & Scottie Rescue, Golden Beginnings Rescue, Dream Dachshund Rescue, Miniature Schnauzer Rescue, and Rescued Pets Movement.
Pets must be leashed, in a protective carrier, fish bowl or terrarium to be brought on the premises for the blessing.
