ALERT: HISD cancels classes Tuesday; 2 makeup days set

April 19, 2016 by Charlotte Aguilar Leave a Comment

The Houston Independent School District has closed schools and offices again Tuesday because of lingering concerns about the weather and travel. Since many private schools base their decisions to hold classes upon HISD’s, families are urged to check on individual school’s status.
The HISD announcement means its afterschool activities and district events, such as professional training, are also canceled.
The two days of cancellations mean HISD is activating its two, state-mandated inclement weather makeup days, May 26 and 27. Those dates were established in December 2014, when the Board of Education approved the district’s annual calendar.
Two HISD middle schools — Johnston in southwest Houston, and M.C. Williams in north Houston — were opened Monday as shelters for those displaced by the storms.
HISD offers updated school closing information on its Inclement Weather Hotline at 713-267-1704 and social media on Twitter @HoustonISD and on Facebook at facebook.com/houstonisd.
