Roy M. Renick, 22, and Samuel H. Gifford, 19 were arrested and charged with capital murder on Aug. 20.
The Austin Police Department arrested two men on Aug. 20 for the murders of West U residents Stacey Barnett and Jonathon Goosey.
Barnett and Goosey were both University of Texas graduates who grew up in West U and attended Lamar High School. They were discovered shot to death in their apartment at 904 West 21st Street in Austin by friends on July 21, 2009.
Roy M. Renick, 22, and Samuel H. Gifford, 19 were arrested and charged with capital murder on Aug. 20.
Renick was arrested at 12:45 p.m. by members of the APD Intel Unit and the US Marshals Service.
Gifford was arrested at 2:30 p.m. by members of the APD Cold Case Unit.
The APD previously arrested and charged James Richard “Ricky” Thompson, 20, for capital murder on July 25, 2009.
Goosey allegedly told mutual friends that Thompson was coming over to pay him money he owed for marijuana, which police say Goosey had been dealing for about three years. Thompson allegedly owed about $8,000 for drugs he received from Goosey to sell.
The victims were both killed with a .22 pistol, one victim upstairs and one downstairs and there was no sign of forced entry, Austin police said. Both victims’ cell phones were smashed, apparently so police would not see calls made to Goosey earlier that morning on July 21, 2009.
