Trees from the West U. Tree Trust are planted in December and January, and residents have until Dec. 1 to apply for a tree for this year’s cycle. The Tree Trust, created in 1992, gives free 30-gallon trees to residents to plant in the city’s right-of-way in front of their home.
The 30-gallon trees are typically about 1.5 inches in diameter and 8 feet tall. Residents who would like a larger 60-gallon or 100-gallon tree can split the additional cost with the Tree Trust.
The Trust is funded by residents who purchase credits when they are unable to comply with City Ordinance by replacing a tree they have cut down on their own property.
Applications for a tree from the trust can be downloaded at www.westu.org.
