The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council recently awarded residents of Houston and Bellaire with the Gold Award.
According to a council release, Lyla Lyles of Houston taught swim lessons in her community to earn the award. She led volunteers from her swim team in teaching students the basics of swimming, including how to hold their breath, floating, kicking and more. Classes were taught over a five-day period.
“I wanted to teach people to swim and have them promise to introduce someone else to swimming and water safety,” Lyles said in a release.
Also, Caroline Matlock of Bellaire earned the award.
