West University police believe they may have cleared nine or more cases of theft of residents’ identity, but they’re waiting for the suspect — who has a 40-year criminal history — to be re-arrested after he made bond on the first two arrest warrants.
According to a release from the WUPD Thursday (May 30), they were able to tie John Thomas Dill, 68, to three cases of identity theft in which he is accused of using residents’ personal information to obtain credit cards fraudulently between March and August 2018, and he was arrested on two warrants.
The District Attorney’s Office requested a $30,000 minimum bond for the warrants based on Dill’s long criminal history, but a magistrate lowered the bonds to $7,500 each — and he was released.
Dill, who lists an east Houston address, was already on parole for a similar offense, and an arrest warrant for violating that parole has been issued. Additionally, investigators believe they may have located six additional victims in West U, and said more arrest warrants are pending.
Other felony and misdemeanor arrests reported by the WUPD include:
11/6/2009 Credit/Debit Card Abuse, Disposed
3/10/1989 Credit Card-Present-Other, Disposed
