After 28 years at 3003 W. Holcombe Boulevard in the Vanderbilt Square center, the Barnes & Noble store is leaving, with its final day set for June 19. B&N is holding a storewide 25 percent off sale in the meantime.
Sources tell Essentials that the landlord, Invesco Aim Advisers in Greenway Plaza, ended the lease against B&N’s wishes, but that firm did not return messages.
“If you have any ideas for where we could reopen a new store location, please email MyBarnesandNoble@bn.com adding ‘Vanderbilt Square’ in the subject line,” the bookseller said on signs in the store announcing the closing. The message was widely shared on social media in West U and Bellaire, with Meyerland Plaza the most common suggestion.

The chain still has a large two-story location at 2030 W. Gray St. in the River Oaks Shopping Center and another in the Town & Country Center, 12850 Memorial Dr. Vanderbilt Square employees say they have been offered positions at those locations.
