Democratic candidate for Texas Senate District 17 Chris Bell today announced new endorsements from federal, state and local elected officials, as well as the support of 99 precinct chairs in Senate District 17.
Bell’s endorsements include West University Mayor Bob Kelly, Texas Democratic Party Chair Boyd Richie, former Texas Gov. Mark White Jr., former Texas Comptroller John Sharp, former Texas Senators David Bernsen and Carl Parker, and former Ambassador Arthur Schechter. A complete list of the endorsements is on ChrisBell.com.
The endorsement list also includes the Texas AFL-CIO, the Harris County Tejano Democrats, the Houston GLBT Caucus, the Harris County Democrats, and IBEW Local 527.
Republic candidate Austen Furse, a West U. resident, has announced endorsements by the Texas Right to Life PAC, Political pundit and author Ann Coulter, the Houston Realty Breakfast Club and the C Club.
The special election to be held on Election Day, Nov. 4 is to fill the vacancy created by Sen. Kyle Janek’s resignation. A runoff will follow if no candidate in the special election gets a majority.
Bell and Furse will appear with two others on the Nov. 4 ballot – former Harris County felony court judge Joan Huffman, a Republican and Southside Place resident, and Harris County Republican precinct chair Grant Harpold.
