Bell In The Lead In Harris County With 39 Percent, Not Enough For A Majority

November 4, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The unofficial cumulative numbers for Harris County as of 6:20 p.m. Nov. 4 in the special election for the Texas Senate seat vacated by Kyle Janek have Democrat Chris Bell leading with 39.79 percent of the vote, which is not enough to win the election outright.
District 17 also includes Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties.
Republican Joan Huffman follows with 19.31 percent, with Democrat Stephanie Simmons garnering 15.88 percent. Republican Austen Furse is running fourth with 13.18 percent of the vote, Republican Ken Sherman with 7.99 percent and Republican Grant Harpold with 3.85 percent.
If no candidate earns a majority of the vote, a runoff election will be held between the top two vote getters.
