UPDATED

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Bellaire area.

The flood advisory is in effect until 2 p.m.

The City of Bellaire has activated its Emergency Operations Center due to the heavy rainfall.

High-water is being reported throughout the city and surrounding areas. Bellaire Boulevard and Second St. is impassable.

So far today, rainfall reports of 4.36 inches have been received at a monitoring station at Brays Bayou and Bellaire Boulevard.

The National Weather Service is warning residents not to drive into areas where water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear and just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road.

Rain can fall one to three inches per hour, causing street flooding in urban areas.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the afternoon.
