Bellaire City Council approved an ordinance establishing a Sunset Review Committee as an ad hoc committee, during its Monday night meeting.
Council discussed the idea for the establishment of a Sunset Review Committee on Sept. 13. The committee’s goal would be to help council with the review of its existing boards, commissions and committees and to update the city’s Board Handbook.
Nine members were appointed to the committee to serve for one year. Councilmember Andrew Friedberg was nominated by council to serve as the chair of the committee.
Council has asked each board, commission and committee to appoint one of its members to serve on the Sunset Committee.
Members of the Sunset Review Committee include:
• Kathy Biddle – Bellaire Cultural Arts Commission
• Iola Pickul – Bellaire L.I.F.E. Advisory Board
• Randy Pollard – Board of Adjustment
• Kristin Schuster – Building and Standards Commission
• Jeff Addicks – Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
• Winfred Frazier – Planning and Zoning Commission
• William Stone – Recycling Committee
Bellaire residents Lynn McBee and Pat McLaughlan were interviewed by council on Oct. 18 for the citizen positions. Council approved McBee and McLaughlan as the resident members of the committee during last night’s meeting.
Friedberg said he sees his position on the committee as more of a facilitator and will only vote if there is a tie.
“I don’t want to get in the way,” he said.
Friedberg said he hopes the committee will be able to have six meetings within the next year.
