Bellaire Council to hold moveable meeting

July 11, 2014 by Bellaire Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The Bellaire City Council will hold a moving meeting Monday, as they tour a variety of developments and transit centers in a workshop discussion of possible Transit Center locations in the city’s Urban Village Transit-Oriented Development district.

The bus tour will start on Bellaire’s north side, where METRO and the Uptown District have proposed a new Transit Center as part of a $147.5 million project that would add bus-only traffic lanes on Loop 610, from a proposed Transit Center in Bellaire through the Uptown District in the Galleria area to METRO’s Northwest Transit Center. The Texas Transportation Commission recently approved $25 million for the bus lanes, and Houston-area transportation officials are also contributing $61.8 million from locally-controlled federal funds.

The city council will then travel to the CityCentre Houston development, at 800 Town and Country Boulevard, for a presentation by the Midway Companies about the challenge of developing mixed-use urban projects.

Next, the council will tour the Gables Tanglewood development at 5740 San Felipe, to continue discussions about transit centers and mixed-use developments. Then, the council will visit the Uptown Houston District office at 1980 Post Oak Blvd., to continue their discussions.

The workshop will conclude at Bellaire City Hall.

The council meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., with return to Bellaire at about 9:30 p.m.
