Bellaire Police last week continued to receive complaints from residents about Identity Theft, with nine cases where victims reported unknown persons had used their personal information to file fictitious federal income tax returns.
Police also responded to two cases of Driving While Intoxicated, two family disturbances and several cases where drivers were operating motor vehicles without valid drivers’ licenses.
The ID/Tax Fraud cases included the following reports:
*April 17, 10:25 a.m., a married couple who live in the 4500 block of Merrie Lane, told police an unknown person fraudulently filed a tax return using their social security numbers.
*April 17, 12:06 p.m., 4600 Valerie St., an unknown suspect obtained the victims’ social security numbers and filed 2014 taxes.
*April 17, 1 p.m., a Bellaire officer was dispatched to the 4400 block of Valerie St., where the victim stated an unknown person filed a fraudulent tax return using the victim’s social security number.
*April 17, 1:55 p.m., a Bellaire officer was sent to the 5500 block of Grand Lake, where “an unknown suspect obtained the victims’ social security numbers and filed 2014 taxes.
*April 20, a Belaire officer went to the 4500 block of Holt at about 6:05 p.m. to speak with a victim, who stated her information as well as her husband’s information was stolen and used to file a fraudulent income tax return.
*April 20, 3:37 p.m., 5200 block of Patrick Henry, a Bellaire officer met with the complainant, who advised an unknown suspect filed taxes using his social security number.
*April 22, 7:06 a.m., an officer met with a victim who lives in the 4500 block of Valerie.
The victim told police that he received bills for payment on an account he never opened and that someone had filed a federal tax return using his information.
*April 21, 10:57 a.m., an officer met with a complainant from the 100 block of Beverly Lane. She told police she had not yet filed her 2014 United States federal tax return, however, an unknown person had filed her tax return fraudulently using her identifying information.
*April 22, 8:56 a.m., a resident of the 5500 block of Huisache went to the police station to report that she attempted to file her 2014 federal tax return but was unable to do so because someone else had already filed a fraudulent return, one using her identifying information.
Bellaire police last week arrested two drivers for DWI last week.
On April 18, 2015 at approximately 11:34 p.m., a Bellaire officer was dispatched to the 5200 block of Interstate Highway 610 Northbound in response to a motor vehicle accident. The officer arrived on scene and saw a silver Audi sedan which appeared to have crashed head on into the barrels. The driver was still sitting in the front seat of the vehicle. The officer made contact with a witness who said she saw the suspect’s vehicle pass her further south on IH 610, she came over the hill she saw the suspect’s vehicle had crashed into the barrels. The officer then made contact with the suspect and detected a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath. Upon further investigation, the suspect was placed into custody for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Bellaire Jail for processing.
On April 19, at about 1:25 a.m. a wrecker driver flagged down a Bellaire officer and told the officer he had been following the driver of a blue Toyota Camry when he saw the driver strike another vehicle and hit a traffic sign. The officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon further Investigation, the suspect was placed into custody for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Bellaire Jail for booking.
A Bellaire officer was dispatched at 4:05 p.m. on April 17 to the 5000 block of Bellaire Blvd, after a driver involved in an accident failed to stop. The victim of the accident told police that a blue and white Ford Bronco hit the front of his vehicle and fled the scene. The victim then told police that he followed the subject through the neighborhood, but that he lost sight of the Bronco after trying to block him in at a dead-end street. Another Bellaire officer located the vehicle, and the suspect was arrested and charged with failure to stop and give information, and destructive/damage/vandalism of property, with more than $200 in damages.
Bellaire police last week responded to two family disturbances.
At about 8:30 p.m.on April 22, police were called to the 5100 block of Chestnut in response to a family disturbance. A juvenile was having a heated argument with his mother and grandmother. The juvenile knocked over a chair and pushed his mother toward his grandmother. There were no visible injuries or complaints of pain, but the youth was charged with Assault, Class C.
Shortly before noon on April 22, Bellaire officers were dispatched to a family disturbance in the 4500 block of Holly. The victim told police that he and his son were involved in a verbal argument. with further investigation, the officers discovered that the son had destroyed several items inside the home. The suspect was placed under arrest from criminal mischief.
On April 17, Bellaire police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Randall’s Grocery Store, at 5130 Bellaire Blvd. Randall’s loss prevention employees observed a male individual take several items before exiting the store and not paying for the items. Store employees detained the individual upon exiting the store and called the police. The suspect was arrested for shoplifting.
Just after 5 p.m. on April 20, Bellaire police responded to a shoplifting case at the CVS Pharmacy at 5430 Bissonnet. The complainant told police that an employee was stealing from CVS. The investigating officer received a copy of the store’s video surveillance, and a written statement from the suspect. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Bellaire Jail.
At about 10:30 on April 21, a Bellaire officer observed a blue 2007 Chrysler 300 parked on the third story of a parking garage located at the 6500 block of the West Loop South. The officer noticed the vehicle had all lighting equipment turned off, with two suspects in the two front seats of the vehicle. During the investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of 5.2 grams of marijuana. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and an outstanding Sugarland Police Department arrest warrant.
Bellaire police last week also arrested several drivers who were operating motor vehicles in the city without valid drivers’ licenses and/or insurance coverage.
