Bellaire Police last week investigated two robberies in the city.
In the first case, a resident of the 4700 block of Linden St. called police at about 3:45 p.m., to report hearing a loud boom, which sounded like a car accident. Two officers were sent to the area, and located a gray Nissan Maxima on the second level of the parking garage in the 6800 block of the West Service Road. The vehicle had struck an iron beam. Two women in the vehicle told police that they had been robbed. The investigation is continuing.
On Sunday, October 26, police officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Chestnut to respond to a report of a man threatening two other men with a knife. The man who called police stated that the suspect had sold them an IPhone 5s that was fake. When the two buyers opened the box, they found that the phone did not work and that there were no accessories include. They confronted the suspect, who refused to give them their money back and attempted to race away on a bicycle. The two victims stopped him and the suspect took off running. The victims continued to pursue the suspect on foot and he then pulled a knife and stated to stay away from him or he would cut them. The victims called 911 and reported the incident and followed the suspect at a safe distance and observed the suspect enter a house in the 5200 block of Beech St. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery Monday.
Bellaire police also investigated two burglaries last week.
On Saturday, October 18, at Bellaire police officer met with a business owner in the 5400 block of Bellaire Blvd. The complainant told police that an unknown suspect had broken into the office suite and stolen a computer.
A resident of the 4500 block of Verone called police on Wednesday, October 22, just before 1 p.m., to report that when he entered his backyard, he observed the back door glass was shattered. Three police officers responded and determined that the home had been burglarized.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on October 18, two Bellaire officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft. The victim reported that his 2003 gold Chevrolet SUV had been stolen from the third floor of a parking garage in the 6700 block of the West Loop South.
Bellaire police also reported two cases involving the theft of motor vehicle parts.
On October 22, at about 7:35 a.m., Bellaire police were called to the 5000 block of Terminal, where a man reported that the front hoods had been stolen off two of his trucks.
On October 24, police were called to the 6700 block of the West Loop South, at about 3 p.m., where a victim advised that the rear view side mirrors had been stolen off his vehicle.
Shortly before noon on October 22, Bellaire police responded to a shoplifting call from a business in the 5100 block of Bellaire Blvd. A Bellaire officer located the suspect, a black man in a wheelchair, at the Metro Transit Center. The officers determined the suspect was involved in the shoplifting incident.
Two men were arrested by Bellaire police on Saturday at 1:48 a.m., when an officer on patrol in the 7900 block of the West Service Road observed a white Dodge Durango, which had a flat tire, stopped in a main lane of traffic. As the officer made contact with the men, he noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer placed one man into custody for marijuana possession and possession of a controlled substance. The second suspect was taken into custody because he had outstanding warrants from the Houston Police Department.
Bellaire police responded to a death investigation on Friday. A man was found deceased in his apartment, in the 4600 block of Bellaire Blvd.
Bellaire police last week also arrested six drivers for driving-while-intoxicated.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, two Bellaire officers were called to do a “welfare check” on a driver who was slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle, which was facing the wrong direction, in the 4700 block of Bellaire Blvd.
The driver had his foot on the brake, with the vehicle in drive. The officers positioned their patrol vehicles on both the front and back of the driver’s vehicle. When the officers tried to to wake up the driver, he let his foot off the brake, and then refused or was unable to open the window. He attempted to drive away striking the front patrol vehicle. The officers then had to break the man’s driver side window and physically remove him from the vehicle. The defendant showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Later that morning, two other Bellaire officers encountered a similar incident in the 6700 block of IH 610, on the westbound service road. At 7:23 a.m., police were called about a motorist who was passed out in his vehicle, in a moving lane of traffic. That motorist also was arrested for driving-while-intoxicated.
Close to midnight on October 19, another motorist was arrested for DWI in the 7800 block of IH 610. A Bellaire officer observed a white Honda Accord traveling at about 30 MPH in the 60 MPH speed zone, and began following the vehicle. The officer observed that the driver failed to maintain a single lane of traffic. The driver was pulled over and arrested for DWI.
At about 4:22 a.m. on October 25, a Bellaire officer was called to the 5200 block of IH 610 in regard to a vehicle facing the wrong direction. Upon arrival, the officer observed that the the driver’s vehicle had major front end damage. The driver was standing outside the vehicle with a witness, who confirmed the man was the sole occupant and operator of the vehicle. The driver was arrested for DWI.
A sixth driver was stopped for DWI on Sunday morning at 6:16 a.m. in the 5200 block of Bellaire Blvd, but the details of that case were not immediately available.
Bellaire police also arrested several drivers in the city last week, who were driving with invalid, or suspended drivers’ licenses.
