Burglaries ran rampant in Bellaire from May 6 to the 22nd. Twenty-one burglaries were reported to the Bellaire Police Department and they ranged from burglarized cars, houses, and offices. Below are the reported crimes.
On May 6, two officers were sent to the 5300 block of Bellaire in regards to a series of thefts occurring at a bank between November 18 and Dec 9. It was discovered after watching security footage provided by the bank that a suspect was stealing money from the bank vault as it was being counted.
That same day, an officer was dispatched to the 7900 block of South Rice Avenue in reference to an attempted burglary of a 1994 tan Chevrolet Silverado. The victim states that unknown suspect broke the steering wheel column in an attempt to steal the vehicle. Nothing was stolen from inside the vehicle, reported the victim.
On May 7, an officer was dispatched to the 5300 block of Bissonnet Street in regards to a burglary of a vehicle. The officer met with the reportee who stated he has seen a black male inside a vehicle with a broken window. The reportee stated seeing the suspect reach through the broken window and rummaged through the back seat of the car. The suspect stated he saw the suspect get into the passenger seat of a white Buick and flee the scene. The officer met with the vehicle owner and it was discovered that two money orders were missing from inside the vehicle.
On May 8, an officer was dispatched to the 4500 block of Holly in regards to a house burglary. Upon arrival the officer discovered that a suspect entered the house without consent and took several possessions. The same day, a second burglarized house was reported, this one in the 4400 block of Jane. The officer on scene made contact with the victim who stated that a suspect entered her house and took several items.
A day later, a victim went to the Bellaire Police Station to report that their vehicle was burglarized on May 6th. The victim stated that an item was taken from the locked vehicle.
The next reported burglary was May 12 when an officer was dispatched to the 4900 block of Willow Street. Once at the residence, the officer discovered that the house was burglarized between May 7 and 12. The officer also observed a broken window on the residence and subsequently filed a report.
On May 13, an officer was dispatched to the 4700 block of Laurel in reference to a burglarized car. The reportee stated to the officer that between 1 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. somebody entered his sister’s vehicle.
Two more cars were burglarized on May 13 and all occurred in the 4700 block of Laurel. The victim of the next burglarized car told the officer that between the hours of 1 p.m. on May 11 and 10:00 a.m. on May 13, unknown suspects entered the vehicle. The third burglarized vehicle in the area was reported at 10:45 a.m.
The next reported burglary occurred on May 16. On that day, a victim, residing in the 5100 block of Mimosa, went to the Bellaire Police Department to report that items were stolen from her home. The victim explained that she suspected it was the maid because she had not been seen or heard from since.
The same day, another victim went to the police station with similar complaint. The victim reported that items from her house were missing. She expressed that she suspected the maid as she had not been seen or heard from since.
On May 18, an officer was dispatched to the 4500 block of Maple Street in regards to a burglarized car. The victim stated to the officer that his car had been burglarized as his center console had been ransacked. There was no force entry into the vehicle.
The same day, an officer was dispatched to the 4600 block of Valerie in regards to an attempted burglary of a house. It was discovered that there was a forced entry through the back door by a suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect fled the residence when he observed the homeowner arrive. The resident observed the suspect entering a silver Ford Taurus.
Two more reported burglaries were reported on May 18.
The first one was a victim who went to the police station to report that its car was burglarized in the 4500 block of Holt Street. The victim states it occurred between 9:30 p.m. on May 17 and 6:20 a.m. on May 18. The second one resulted in an officer being dispatched to the 4600 block of Willow Street to respond to a burglarized home call. The victims stated to the officer that they entered their home and noticed it had been ransacked. Several items were also reported to be missing. The suspect entered the house by cutting the screen on a back window.
On May 19, an officer was dispatched to the 4900 block of Laurel Street regarding a burglarized car. The victim stated that they last saw their white 2010 Lexus in their driveway at midnight and realized it was missing at 7:30 a.m.
On May 20, an officer responded to a burglary of a building at HEB. The officer arrived and observed a grey 2013 Dodge Avenger leaving the parking lot and travelling north on Fifth St. The officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle but failed to do so. A pursuit began and one suspect was caught at the end of the chase.
Two more burglaries were reported on May 20 and both were in the Randalls in the 5100 block of Bellaire.. The first involved a suspect stealing cigarettes. The suspect was detained by two Metro Police Officers. He was subsequently transferred to the Bellaire Police Department. The second one resulted with the the suspect being arrested and transported to the Bellaire city jail.
