Bellaire Police officers last week responded to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, in the 5100 block of Spruce Street, after a suspect assaulted a clerk at the business on Monday, July 27.
The clerk at the store believed that the suspect may have been involved in a “return scam” that
had been detected by the store’s loss prevention department. An email to employees warned that the scam was being conducted by a person matching the suspect’s description. When the victim walked to the back of the store with the suspect’s auto part, the suspect followed him into the “employee only” area of the store and demanded the part back. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s hand and displayed a silver handgun. The victim complied and the suspect fled the store. The suspect was described as a black man, but no other details were provided. The suspect fled the store in a newer model Chevy Impala, driving west on Spruce St.
Also on Monday, July 27, a Bellaire police officer was dispatched to the city of Bellaire Public Works Department, at 4337 Edith, in response to a “found” property report. A contract city employee had found a gun in the grass in the 8400 block of the IH 610 West service road. The worker brought the gun to a city employee in the city’s public works office.
At about 8:10 p.m. on Monday July 27, three Bellaire officers responded to a family disturbance in the 4500 block of Sunburst St. Officer had been advised that the husband was hitting his wife with a shoe. Upon the officers’ arrival, the parties were separated and interviewed. Both gave conflicting stories and there were no witnesses. The wife did not have any visible injuries. One of the officers contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s office, but an assistant district attorney declined to file charges.
On Tuesday, July 28, a Bellaire officer was dispatched to a business in the 5300 block of Bellaire Blvd. in reference to a forgery. The officer met with the complainant, who stated that the subject at the counter attempted to cash a fraudulent check. The check was found to be a forgery, and the suspect was arrested.
On Wednesday, July 29, at about 10:47 a.m., three Bellaire officers were dispatched to a “reckless driving” case involving a Bellaire woman who reported being followed by two motorcyclists from IH 610 West and U.S. Highway 59 onto Bellaire Blvd. In the 5000 block of Bellaire, one of the motorcyclists struck her passenger door with a fist. The victim went to the Bellaire Police Department and the motorcycles were stopped at S. Rice Avenue and Whipple. While one officer spoke with the woman, two other officers were with the two motorcyclists. The The victim did not want to pursue charges, since there was no damage to her vehicle. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office declined charges on both suspects.
At five minutes past midnight on July 29, a Bellaire officer on patrol in the 5400 block of Bellaire Blvd. noticed a vehicle with defective left rear brake light. The officer stopped the driver, who provided a false name and date of birth. After further investigation, the driver was arrested on traffic and then later charged with Failure to Identify.
At 2:54 a.m. on July 31, a Bellaire officer was booking a suspect for driving without a valid license at the Bellaire Jail, at 5100 Jessamine, when he found the suspect to be in possession of marijuana. The suspect was charged with possession of marijuana.
A woman who was stopped by a Bellaire officer in the 5400 block of Bellaire Blvd. on July 31, presented the officer with her Texas Identification card. The driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while her Texas driver’s license was invalid.
On Saturday, August 1, another driver was arrested by Bellaire police at 10:22 a.m. after the man was found to be operating a motor vehicle while his Texas driver’s license was suspended. He was arrested and taken to the Bellaire Jail, where he was booked for the charge of Driving While License Invalid/Enhanced.
At about 1:30 on August 1, Bellaire police were dispatched to a home in the 4600 block of Evergreen for a death investigation. The person who reported the death told police that she had administered medication to the victim, and then went back to check on him about 40 minutes later. The victim was no longer conscious. Bellaire Medics were called and pronounced the victim deceased at 1:38 p.m.
On August 2, at 9:50 a.m., a Bellaire officer was dispatched to a theft-in-progress at a business in the 5800 block of Bissonnet. The officer found the suspect, who had the stolen items in his possession. The suspect was transported to the Bellaire Jail, where officer found him to be in possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was charged with that offense.
About 15 minutes after midnight on Monday, August 3, a Bellaire officer stopped the driver of a vehicle for running a red light in the 4600 block of Evergreen. The officer found that the suspect had an outstanding warrant from Harris County for possession of a controlled substance. The officer placed the suspect in custody, and while inventorying his vehicle, the officer found drugs and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was charged for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Bellaire Jail.
