Drama students at Bellaire High School will do their best to make sure the audience has a good time at the school’s musical that is opening tonight.

The school’s Fine Arts Department is opening its production, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, on Friday at 8 p.m. The show runs through Monday and it includes intense audience participation.

The musical centers around a fictional spelling bee in Putnam County, New York. Six kids face off in the battle of their lives. They compete against each other as well as members of the audience. Three adults help adjudicate the proceedings: a nostalgic former spelling bee winner, a mildly insane vice principal, and The Official Comfort Counselor completing his community service to the state of New York.

The cast includes Michael Cai, Michelle Cohen, Jaekob Greene, Eric Hawkins, Alexis Katra, Audrey Long, Nazayat Parvez,  Rohini Rege, Andrew Riggs, Chris Rodriguez, Corey Sheppard,  Seth Stewart, Phillip Taylor, Malcolm Walker.

The cost is $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. For more information, call (713) 295-3754 or email pmunson@houstonisd.org and gsilver@houstonisd.org.
