Bellaire High School is one of 17 marching bands to perform at the Marching Band Festival on Saturday.

Bellaire High School is one of 17 high school marching bands and four middle school bands to perform during HISD’s Third Annual Marching Band Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The festival will take place at Delmar Stadium, 2020 Mangum. The Marching Band Festival is hosted by HISD’s Secondary Fine Arts Curriculum Department and the University Interscholastic League Department.

“This annual marching event brings effective middle school and high school band directors together in a demonstration of what the schools have been learning during their regular school day,” said Secondary Fine Arts Curriculum Manager Dr. Susan K. Vaughan. “The high school marching bands bring the inspiration of hours of after-school precision marching combined with music excellence. A band energizes schools and students, it sets high standards of excellence in schools by practicing fearlessly those components of precision, which is shared with the audience of parents and community members.”

The 17 high schools participating in the event this year include Austin, Bellaire, Chavez, Davis, Sam Houston, Jones, Lamar, Milby, Reagan, Sharpstown, Sterling, Waltrip, Booker T. Washington, Westbury, Westside, Worthing, and Yates High Schools.

The five middle school bands that will be performing on Saturday include Hamilton, Lanier, Revere, West Briar and Jackson Middle Schools.

“This event will likely put hope and encouragement into the minds of students, directors, and communities,” said Waltrip High School Director of Bands Charlie Stephens. “We all need to render continued support in our efforts for the various band programs.”

The event is free and open to the public.
