After ushering in Hanukkah over the weekend with more than 600 attending a community festival, concert and menorah lighting, Bellaire is ready to welcome Santa with two days of events, starting tonight at 6.

Selfies with Santas indoors at the Bellaire Civic Center, 7008 S. Rice Ave., allows residents to bring their own cameras and snap pictures of Jolly Old St. Nick with their children from 6-7 p.m. There is no charge for the event.

Those who can’t catch him tonight will have a second chance Thursday when the traditional Holiday in the Park celebration behind the Civic Center in Bellaire Town Square runs from 6-8:30 p.m.

Santa’s arrival atop a city fire engine with a Bellaire police escort will kick off the festivities, which include food, games, a snow slide and petting zoo, and live music from local choirs. An ice carving show is a new feature this year.

Santa will remain throughout the event to pose for pictures, which will be available for sale.

The Bellaire Police Department will have a booth with hot chocolate, music, giveaways, and ornaments to color that will be displayed on the tree in the jury assembly room at the police and courts building.

City pools will close at 1 p.m., and the Recreation Center will close at 5 p.m. so staff can prepare for the event, which is sponsored by the Bellaire Parks & Recreation Department.

Throughout the season, Santa’s mailbox is located outside Bellaire City Hall adjacent to the Civic Center, for youngsters to deposit their letters and wish lists.
