Bellaire Optimists are taking orders for their Super Bowl ribs, brisket

Members of the Bellaire Optimist Club have their hotline up and running for orders and are preparing their gear for their traditional Super Bowl Barbecue at Feld Park Feb. 2-3.

Customers can pre-order a whole brisket for $75, and a rack of ribs or a pork shoulder for $35 through Jan. 30 before prices go up. Pre-cooking weights are about 12 pounds for the brisket, four pounds for the rack, and seven pounds for the shoulder.

For more than two decades now, no matter the weather, the Optimists begin staffing their “kitchen” in the Feld Park parking lot on Avenue B Friday, camping out for two nights to get the ‘cue just right for customer pickup in time for the big game. Last year they sold more than 2 tons.

This is the service club’s major fundraiser to support a broad range of community activities, with a particular focus on youth and first responders.
