Bellaire Parks among issues to be discussed at council meeting

April 15, 2016 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Mulberry Park could soon be getting a makeover if the Bellaire City Council approves an ordinance awarding a contract for new playground equipment and shade structure at Monday’s city council meeting.
The makeover comes as a result of Bellaire adopting the city’s comprehensive plan which included the Parks Master Plan, in September 2015. The plan detailed the need to replace the playground and provide a shade structure at Mulberry Park.
Bellaire’s Department of Parks and Recreation and Facilities, along with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board’s, Karl Miller, are recommending awarding the contract to Fun Abounds by utilizing the State of Texas Local Government Purchasing Cooperative program, Buy Board.
If adopted, the ordinance stipulates the amount to be used to purchase the playground equipment can’t exceed $69,990.36. The council had previously allocated $70,000 in Bellaire’s 2016 Capital Improvement Program for the purchase and installation of the new playground equipment and shade structure.
Other agenda items on the docket include the council considering suspending a code that prohibits the consumption of alcohol within Bellaire Town Square. The request is being made by the PATRONS for Bellaire Parks. The group is hosting six events between May 1 to April 30, 2017, and would like the code to be suspended for those events.
The city council has previously suspended the code for the The Nature Discovery Center to host up to six events at Russ Pitman Park.
The meeting is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
