Bellaire Police Busy with Burglaries, Drunk Drivers

Bellaire Police last week investigated two residential burglaries, a burglary at a car wash, one case of assault and five cases of burglaries of motor vehicles.
There were seven drivers arrested in Bellaire for having a suspended or invalid drivers’ license, and three cases of driving-while intoxicated.
Bellaire police were sent to a residence in the 4600 block of Oakdale on September 10, after witnesses reported an open window and an open door at the home. The witnesses told police and Harris County Sheriff’s deputies that “an older silver van had been hanging around in the area, and backed into a driveway.” Officer determined that the house had been burglarized. After an investigation, one suspect was arrested and another suspect was identified. A warrant was issued for the arrest of the second suspect.
On September 12, an officer was dispatched to a home in the 4600 block of Valerie in response to a burglary. The complainant advised that an unknown person had broken in and burglarized the residence sometime during the prior week.
Bellaire police were called to respond to a burglary at the Bellaire Car Wash, located at 4300 Beechnut St., on September 15. The complainant reported that an unknown person had broken into two metal boxes next to the vacuum cleaners. The thief got away with about $10 to $15 in loose coins.
Just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, September 14, two Bellaire police officers responded to a family disturbance at a residence in the 4300 block of Bissonnet. After an investigation and interviews with all subjects involved in the dispute, a man was placed in custody and transported to the Bellaire jail. He was charged with simple assault/family violence.
Bellaire police also responded to five incidents involving burglaries of motor vehicles. Those cases included a burglary on September 12 in the 5000 block of Bellaire, where a woman’s purse was stolen from inside her vehicle while she was filling up with gas, and another case that day of a woman who went into a bank in the 5100 block of Bellaire and returned to her vehicle to find the passenger window smashed out and property missing.
Bellaire police also investigated one motor vehicle burglary, and one attempted vehicle burglary on September 12 in the 5000 block of Locust. In the first case, an unknown person smashed the driver’s side window and stole property from the vehicle. In the second case, police believe that the same person caused damage to a vehicle, but did not remove property.
Police also responded to an incident in the 7000 block of S. Rice on September 10, where an unknown suspect stole a license plate from a truck that had been parked in a parking lot.
On September 15, a Bellaire Police officer on patrol in the 7800 block of IH 610 got involved in a high-speed chase, after he observed a motorcycle and another vehicle racing each other at speeds over 100 MPH. The officer activated his lights and siren, but neither driver stopped. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but kept visual contact with the motorcycle. The driver was stopped in the 900 block of IH 610, where he was taken into custody for the charge of felony Evading with a Motor Vehicle.
Bellaire police last week also arrested three drivers for driving-while-intoxicated.
On September 9, a Bellaire police officer on patrol with radar in the 6000 block of IH 610 observed a tan Chevrolet Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed at about 1:40 a.m.. The officer stopped the driver, who was arrested for DWI.
On September 10, an officer was dispatched to the 5200 block of IH 610 to respond to a motor vehicle accident. The officer could smell the odor of alcohol from the driver, who exhibited other signs of intoxication. The driver was charged with DWI, but was taken to the hospital by Bellaire medics, due to his injuries in the crash.
A driver was arrested for a DWI and a passenger was arrested for public intoxication on September 16, after a Bellaire officer observed the driver of a silver Saturn fail to maintain a single land, and then jump the concrete and grass median in the 4600 block of Bissonnet. Both subjects were transported to the Bellaire Jail.
Bellaire police also made two drug-related arrests.
On September 8, a Bellaire officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Chrysler in the 7800 block of IH 610 for speeding. The driver was found to have outstanding warrants from the Houston Police Department, and was in possession of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was taken to the Bellaire Jail.
On September 14, a Bellaire officer observed a silver Hyundai traveling at 86 MPH in the 7800 block of IH 610. The officer conducted a traffic stop at 4423 San Felipe, in Houston, where the suspect was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and transported to the Bellaire jail.
A shoplifter who took several items from the Randall’s grocery store at 5130 Bellaire Blvd. was arrested on September 15, after the store manager observed the man selecting items from the shelves, and concealing them on his person. The man exited the store after making no attempt to pay for the items. The man was arrested for Class C theft, and the stolen items were returned to the store.
