The Bellaire Police Department will be participating in the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Event on April 30 at city hall.

DEA agents as well as Bellaire Officer Tim Quimby will be collecting expired or unused prescription drugs in the lobby of Bellaire City Hall, 7008 S. Rice Ave.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 7 million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Heath Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including a home medicine cabinet.

The purpose of the National Take Back Day is to provide a venue for people who want to dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs.

For more information about the event, contact Officer Tim Quimby at 713-668-0487.
