Police are reminding residents to be careful letting unknown people into their homes.

Bellaire police are reminding residents to be careful when letting people into their homes.

On Nov. 8, a resident answered the door around 5:30 p.m. to find a “workman” outside his home in the 4500 block of Pametto.

The workman was carrying a clipboard and appeared legitimate, police said. The workman said he was working on a neighbor’s fence and needed access to the backyard.

While the resident was in the backyard with the workman, cash and several other items were stolen from his home.

Police said this tactic is known as distraction burglary and suspects will often pose as workmen, city employees, salesmen or utility workers.

The suspect is described as a white male with a round face, who could be about 35 years old. He was last seen wearing a grey hat, carrying a clipboard and driving a while pickup truck.

If anyone has information about this incident or needs to report a suspicious person, call the Bellaire Police Department at 713-668-0487.
