Bellaire police warn caution following armed robbery after bank withdrawal

September 2, 2015 by Charlotte Aguilar Leave a Comment

In the wake of an armed robbery outside a home on Tuesday, Bellaire police are issuing a warning to residents to be careful of being followed from their banks — and advice on what to do if they do think someone is after them.
A resident who withdrew cash from the Bank of America at 5133 Bellaire Blvd. was exiting his vehicle with his wife at their home on Braeburn at about 2:20 in the afternoon when they were approached by a man wielding a handgun. The victim had observed the man as the passenger in a gray vehicle, and described him as a black man, medium building, wearing a white shirt and long pants. There was no additional description of the vehicle or weapon provided by police.
The victim complied with the demand for his backpack, and the robber ran to the waiting vehicle and fled eastbound on Braeburn, toward the West Loop.
Bellaire police issued the following statement Wednesday:
“The Bellaire Police remind residents to be aware of their surroundings when leaving banks or arriving at their houses. When leaving banks, pay special attention to vehicles behind you as you approach your next destination. Robbery suspects look for persons that are carrying envelopes, bank bags, or any other signs of a cash transaction. If you think you are being followed, make three right turns to see if the vehicle follows you. If you are still being followed, call the police department and drive towards the nearest police station.
“Do not try and park in your garage or confront the driver of the vehicle, as the suspects may become violent.”
