Bellaire resident Jeffrey Stern is pleading not guilty for his involvement in the plot to kill his wife.
Stern, 53, was indicted on Jan. 24 with two charges of solicitation of capital murder, which remained under seal until Jan. 31. He turned himself in on Feb. 1 at the Houston Police Department and was released on bond. Bond was set at $500,000 for both capital murder charges.
He appeared in court on Feb. 7 and plead not guilty to both charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 9.
Six people have been charged for their involvement in the attempted murder plot of Yvonne Stern, who was shot in the stomach, coming out of an apartment complex on North Braeswood, on May 5.
Jeffrey Stern was arrested for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon in June.
Michelle Gaiser, 37, was arrested and charged with solicitation of capital murder. Gaiser is believed to have arranged the murder attempts. She was allegedly having an affair with Jeffrey Stern.
Nhut Nguyen, 37, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Richard Gutierrez, 32, and James Lowery, 27, were arrested and charged with solicitation of capital murder.
Damian Flores, 27, was arrested and charged with attempted capital murder.
Yvonne Stern survived the May 5 shooting and was able to driver herself to a nearby gas station for help.
The May 5 shooting was one of three attempts that were made on Yvonne Stern’s life.
The first shooting occurred on Feb. 11 in the 500 block of S. Third St.
Bellaire Assistant Police Chief Byron Holloway said neighbors heard gunshots and called the police. No one was injured during the incident and police were unable to locate the suspect.
The next day, Yvonne Stern’s son noticed a bullet hole in the front window of their home. The babysitter called the police, who found a bullet lodged into a chair in the home.
On April 15, a man rang the doorbell of the Stern’s home and fired a shot into the door as Yvonne Stern went to answer the door. No one was injured during the incident.
Bellaire Police Department and Houston Police Department have been investigating the case.
