The Society for the Performing Arts is inviting all Bellaire area students to submit entries for the 13th Annual Student Visual Art Contest sponsored by Wells Fargo.
The Visual Art Contest offers all kindergarten through 12th grade students in the greater Houston area the chance to showcase their talents and win prizes while learning more about performing arts.
The theme of this year’s contest is “Exploring the Fabric of Our World: What Are We Made Of?” It was inspired by SPA’s presentation of the international contemporary dance ensemble Compagnie La Baraka.
Based in Lyon, France, Compagnie La Baraka will make its Houston debut on Saturday, Feb. 26, in Wortham Center’s Cullen Theater performing a new work titled “A World in Itself.” The piece features the company’s seven dancers, as well as live music performed on stage by the Debussy Quartet.
All submitted artwork will be judged on creativity, skill and interpretation of the theme. Visual art on paper, including photography, is permitted with a maximum size of 16 x 20 inches.
Entries may be matted or un-matted. SPA requires one entry per student and one artist per entry.
Students may submit artwork themselves or teachers may submit students’ artwork on their behalf. All submissions must include the title of work, student’s name, grade, address, telephone number and e-mail, as well as the school name and address, teacher’s name, telephone number and e-mail. The information should be placed on the back side of the submission.
The deadline for entries is Friday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.
Entries can be delivered in person or mailed to Society for the Performing Arts, Attention: Education Department, Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana St., Suite 100, Houston, TX 77002.
