With the Bellaire area waking up to Wednesday morning temperatures in the teens, the National Weather Service has issued an updated winter weather outlook for Thursday and Friday.
Forecasters said the possibility of snow or freezing remains in the outlook for late Thursday or early Friday as an upper level disturbance moves into the area.
That disturbance will support gulf moisture lifting over the cold air, triggering bands of precipitation in the form of snow, sleet or freezing rain later in the week.
“The most likely areas affected by accumulating winter precipitation will likely be from Victoria to Houston to Cleveland. Snow accumulations may be around one to three inches, but could be less if sleet or freezing rain develop,” the weather service said. “Ice accumulations could potentially be around a tenth of an inch.”
The frozen precipitation accumulations will create hazardous conditions on area roads, making travel dangerous.
“Keep in mind the exact location, precipitation type and accumulation amounts will largely depend on the track of disturbance, temperatures and moisture levels,” forecasters said. “Meteorologists will continue to monitor this situation and update the forecast as needed. Residents should closely monitor the latest developments on this upcoming winter weather event.”
A winter weather watch may be issued tomorrow.
For the remainder of today, a hard freeze warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Another hard freeze warning has been issued for 6 p.m. this evening through 10 a.m. Thursday as temperatures again plunge into the low-20s.
