Bellaire warns residents to stay off roads as Beta flooding increases; 10+ inches recorded

The city of Bellaire is warning residents to stay at home when possible as street flooding is increasing due to slow-moving Tropical Storm Beta. Officials listed the following intersections as being flooded as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 22).

  • SOUTH RICE/ELM
  • ESR/WSR @BISSONNET
  • BISSONNET/1ST ST
  • ESR/WSR @ BELLAIRE
  • BELLAIRE/SOUTH RICE
  • ESR/WSR@FOURNACE
  • HOLT BETWEEN AVE B & NEWCASTLE
  • BEECHNUT @ SOUTH RICE
  • BAYOU BETWEEN SOUTH RICE AND SERVICE ROAD

Anyone encountering additional high water locations should call the non-emergency number of the Bellaire Police Department, 713-668-0487. The city’s 911 number should be used only for emergencies.

According to the Harris County Flood Warning System, as of 10 a.m. 10 1/2 inches of rain had fallen in the past 24 hours at Brays Bayou and South Rice Avenue, with more than 11 inches recorded at the bayou and Stella Link Road.

Bellaire has closed City Hall, the library and Municipal Court today and canceled solid waste and recycling collection today and Wednesday.
