An elderly Bellaire woman was held hostage at gunpoint for more than an hour early Thursday in her home in the 5200 block of Locust, by a man who ransacked her belongings and stole several items.
The incident started at 3 a.m. Thursday, when the suspect threw an object at the victim’s front door window. The woman went to the door, and the suspect pointed a black handgun at her and ordered her to open the door, threatening to shoot her.
The woman opened the door, and the suspect entered her home. He held her at gunpoint while he ransacked the home and stole “numerous” items, according to Bellaire Police.
The suspect did not physically assault or harm the victim, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male, estimated to be in his early 30s, who is about 5’4” tall, with short curly black hair. He was wearing ripped and faded blue jeans and a white T-shirt. The suspect did not have his face covered.
The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in an older, white sedan that is possibly a four-door model. He was driving east toward Fifth Street at approximately 4:42 a.m.
Bellaire Police continue to investigate and have alerted all area law enforcement agencies about the crime. Police officers also scanned the street for possible outdoor security surveillance cameras.
The woman went to a neighbor’s home after the incident and called police.
