With the heat index continuing to reach as high as 110 in the West U area, the National Weather Service has yet again issued a heat advisory for the entire region.
The heat advisory is in effect until at least 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Heat index values are expected to meet or exceed 105 degrees, with a peak heat index of 104-110 between noon and 7 p.m. today.
Heat stroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion is possible with prolonged exposure and physical activity during the heat of the day.
Those spending time outdoors are urged to take extra precautions. When possible, rescheduled strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours, know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, wear light and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, OSHA recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is a true emergency and medical assistance should be called immediately.
This afternoon’s high is expected to reach 101, with a heat index of 110 under sunny skies. The blistering heat is expected to continue for at least another week, with high temperatures reaching or exceeding 100 degrees every day.
There is no significant chance of rainfall in the forecast.
