The City of West U.’s Building and Standard Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Bill Watson Conference Room in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Boulevard.
On the agenda is another time extension request from the residents at 4144 Coleridge.
The residents originally asked the Building and Standards Commission to give them an extension on a requirement to demolish or repair the garage on their property within 30 days. The owners are selling the property, and say repairing or demolishing the garage would present an economic hardship, as the house and garage will be demolished following the sale.
Owners Judith and Larry McDowell received a non-official notice from Code Enforcement Officer Daniel Paripovich on May 1, indicating that there had been a complaint regarding a tarp covering the top of the garage and numerous cats spreading to adjoining properties. An official notice was sent June 11, with the code violation stated as “accessory structure in state of disrepair.” The notice gave the McDowell’s 10 days to apply for permits for repairs and improvements and 30 days to complete repairs and improvements.
In a letter to Paripovich dated June 18, attorneys for the McDowells stated that the couple anticipated the sale of the property to occur with four to six months, and the purchaser will demolish all structures on the property. The attorney requested that the city postpone action for six months, including postponing any fines for non-compliance. The city has the right to impose a fine up to $1,000 per day if the structure is not demolished or repaired within the 30-day time frame.
The agenda also includes a public hearing concerning a request by James Stuart, Julie Jackson, Chad Terrell and Marlena Terrell to move a building with a central peak higher than 17.5 feet from one location in the city to another.
