After 27 years, The Buffalo Grille will be saying goodbye to its original location at 3116 Bissonnet and moving up the street to a new location in March.
The popular, family-owned restaurant has been exploring options for another location since H-E-B managers expressed concerns about parking. When the restaurant’s lease expires in April, H-E-B will tear down the local eatery for additional parking, The Buffalo Grille co-owner John McAleer III told InstantNewsBellaire today.
“Of course it’s bittersweet,” said McAleer, who was four years old when the restaurant opened its doors at the Bissonnet location. “It is what it is.”
Buffalo Grille will be moving a couple blocks up the street to 4080 Bissonnet in the Weslayan Plaza Shopping Center at Academy and Bissonnet. The restaurant is waiting on permits from the City of Houston, but plans to open the beginning of March.
“We’re ready to get into our new home,” McAleer said. “We’re ready to get moving.”
The new Buffalo Grille location is equipped with a bigger kitchen and freezer space, an outdoor patio and much more parking.
“We’re excited about the parking,” he said. “We shouldn’t have the parking issues we’ve had.”
The feedback has been positive and 90 percent of customers said the new location would be more convenient, he said.
McAleer described the move as “picking up the store and setting it down in the new location.”
The restaurant, which will have the same look and feel, may have some slight changes to the menu, including bringing your own wine.
McAleer said he hopes patrons will bring a bottle of wine and have a good meal with their families.
Buffalo Grille considered taking orders electronically at its new location, but decided to continue taking hand written orders, which they’ve been doing for the past 27 years.
“You’ll be seeing all the same familiar faces,” McAleer said.
Buffalo Grille is planning on hosting a farewell party at the original location, prior to moving. Patrons will be invited to write on the walls and take pictures, while celebrating the opening of the new location, he said.
For now, The Buffalo Grille is operating as usual. They are open Monday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday-Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
