Cancer Alliance Recognizes West U. Elementary For Community Support

June 11, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Lynn Wheeler, director of development of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance, recently presented a plaque to Principal John Threet to recognize West U. Elementary School’s recent service project. Coordinated by PTO community service chair Katie Hwu, students donated thousands of toiletry bags and collected nearly $3,000 in monetary donations. During her visit to the school, Wheeler conveyed that a West U. Elementary family had contacted Candlelighters to offer their guest quarters to an out-of-town family visiting Houston for their child’s cancer treatment.
Information about Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance, a non-profit charity that provides emotional, educational and practical assistance to children with cancer and their families, is available at lwheeler@candle.org or 713-270-4700.
