Choral Evensong Service at Traditional Worship Conference St. Paul’s Choir will sing a Choral Evensong service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, in the Sanctuary of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main at Binz/Bissonnet. This service will be in conjunction with a national conference on traditional worship for contemporary people being conducted at St. Paul’s from November 11 to 13. The service of Evensong, also known as evening prayer, is remarkable both for the centuries-old liturgical tradition it represents and for the atmosphere of contemplative devotion that enables it to remain deeply meaningful for worshipers today. The liturgy traces its origins to the daily rites of the medieval church and has been said or sung regularly in its current form since the sixteenth century. All the words have been shaped and refined by long use and by renewed attempts to express the mysteries of God. St. Paul’s UMC is located at 5501 Main Street at Binz/Bissonnet, across from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Free parking is available across Fannin Street from the church, and the Museum District MetroRail stops are within walking distance of the church.
