Bellaire City Manger Bernie Satterwhite reported to council Monday that construction on Newcastle has been approved and should begin by the end of October.

“It’s going to be a challenge for traffic,” said Satterwhite. “It shouldn’t be as bad as Ferris, we are going to be doing a section at a time.”

The sections of Newcastle under construction will have one-way traffic, with the other lane detoured to Avenue B. The project encompasses Newcastle from Bellaire Boulevard south to Beechnut, and is expected to take a year to complete.

Satterwhite also told council that construction on Evergreen from Renwick to Alder should begin in a about a month, and is the last project in Phase 1 of the Rebuild Bellaire project.

“We are going to be hooking into a major City of Houston storm sewer,” said Satterwhite. “Renwick is going to be pretty tied up.”
