City Of Bellaire Cuts Ribbon On New Fire Station

January 17, 2011 by Bellaire Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The City of Bellaire celebrated the grand opening of its new fire station with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.

Fire Chief Darryl Anderson, Mayor Cindy Siegel, District 134 State Representative Sarah Davis and City Manager Bernie Satterwhite said a few words before Siegel cut the “ribbon” and residents were able to tour the new facility.

“It was time to come home and now we are here,” said Anderson, who thanked Chevron Corp. for housing the fire department during the construction of the new fire station.

The fire department moved into the new facility in November after nearly a year of construction.

“This has been desperately needed,” Siegel said. “One of the greatest prides of our city is the fire department.”

Davis presented Anderson with a flag that was flown in Austin and said that Bellaire is the “envy of Texas.”

Satterwhite thanked everyone who played a part in making the fire station become a reality.

“I’m so proud to be a part of this,” he said. “I sense there’s a certain amount of pride from the people here.”

Satterwhite thanked Anderson, Assistant Chief Alton Moses and all the fire fighters who protect the city.

“For all the fire fighters, full time and volunteer, this is for you,” he said. “This is their home.”

The city council approved a $4.2 million price tag for construction of the new Bellaire Fire Station on Nov. 16, 2009.

The maximum price of the new facility is just over $4.2 million, which includes about $3.9 million for base construction costs and an additional $186,000 for gear lockers, a generator system, communications wiring and a security and fire system. It also includes $128,000 for an optional storm water drainage system. The base construction cost of $3.9 million is nearly $225,000 less than the city’s original budget.

Council also budgeted $229,000 in additional costs for things like furniture and equipment.

Some of the features of the new fire station include an EMS treatment room, a workout room for fire and city staff and an outdoor patio, among other things.
