The City of Bellaire will celebrate the grand opening of the new fire station on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The City of Bellaire will celebrate the grand opening of the Bellaire Fire Station on Saturday, following a year’s construction on the project.

The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will include tours of the new facility.

The city council approved a $4.2 million price tag for construction of the new Bellaire Fire Station on Nov. 16, 2009.

The maximum price of the new facility is just over $4.2 million, which includes about $3.9 million for base construction costs and an additional $186,000 for gear lockers, a generator system, communications wiring and a security and fire system. It also includes $128,000 for an optional storm water drainage system. The base construction cost of $3.9 million is nearly $225,000 less than the city’s original budget.

Council also budgeted $229,000 in additional costs for things like furniture and equipment.

Some of the features of the new fire station include an EMS treatment room, a workout room for fire and city staff and an outdoor patio, among other things.

The Fire Department moved into the new facility in November.
