The Bellaire City Council will tonight at 6 p.m. hold a public hearing for an amendment to a specific use permit for Southwest Presbyterian Church.

The Bellaire City Council will tonight at 6 p.m. hold a public hearing for an amendment to a specific use permit for Southwest Presbyterian Church.

The church is seeking approval to construct a new 3,500 square foot one-story structure at 6033 South Rice Ave. The building would be used as a multi-purpose classroom, office and hall.

The proposed structure will replace what was originally a residence, but the property is currently owned and used by the church.

The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on March 8 regarding the church’s application to amend its specific use permit.

The commission recommends that council approve the amendment to the specific use permit with a requirement to install and maintain a vegetative buffer between the existing church parking lot and the adjacent residential neighborhood.

The public will be able to address city council with comments regarding the amendment to the specific use permit during the public hearing.

Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, 7008 S. Rice Ave.
