The Houston area could see sleet and snow Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service, although none of it is expected to accumulate on the ground.
The weather service issued a wind advisory and hazardous weather statement Wednesday morning, warning residents to prepare for a “wintry mix of sleet and snow flurries within rain showers” after the passage Tuesday of a strong cold front.
Sustained north winds of 20 to 25 miles an hour are possible through 10 a.m., the weather service said. Drivers of vans, campers, trailers and large trucks “should be alert to the danger of these strong winds” especially on east-west roads.
While snow is a possibility, ground temperatures will remain above freezing, the weather service predicted, and no snow or ice is expected to stick to roads and highways.
By tonight, the mercury is expected to drop below freezing, to 31 degrees, the weather service said. People should take steps to protect pets and sensitive plants from the cold.
