Construction started this week on the city hall foundation and stairwell repairs.
West U City Council unanimously approved the city hall foundation and stairwell project on Oct. 11.
Assistant City Manager and Director of Public Works Chris Peifer told council that city staff noticed that the foundation was sinking in the main hallway to city hall and that settling was occurring in the administration offices and along the Auden side of the finance department.
Staff also noticed cracks in the exterior brick wall and interior block walls near the stairwell to the second floor of the fire department.
The city hired structural engineering firm, Walter P. Moore, to conduct as assessment of the issue and to review bids for the project.
Council approved hiring Du-West Foundation Repair for the project on Oct. 11.
The cost of the project will not exceed $83,000 and will be funded by the General Fund Capital Reserve.
The project should take about three weeks to complete, City Manager Michael Ross said.
