The deadline to register to vote in the 2012 Democratic or Republican party primary runoff is next Monday, July 2.
The runoff election is Tuesday, July 31.
Harris County Voter Registrar Don Sumners is reminding county residents that to be eligible to vote in the July 31 primary runoff, a completed voter registration application must be delivered to any tax office branch location before 4:30 p.m. July 2, or mailed with a U.S. Postal Service postmark date of no later than July 2, 2012.
State law requires citizens to be registered to vote 30 days prior to the election date in order to be eligible.
“Each party has unfinished business from its May 29 primary, including selecting its candidate for the U.S. Senate,” Sumners said.
Harris County residents who need to register to vote, update an address or make a name change can obtain a voter registration application online at www.hcvoter.net, at any tax office branch location, libraries and City of Houston community and health centers.
Voters can also visit the tax office website at www.hcvoter.net to ensure they are properly registered.
Applicants may register to vote if they:
- Are a resident of Harris County, and
- Are at least 17 years, 10 months of age (to vote, you must be 18), and
- Are a U.S. citizen, and
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony, (unless they have completed all punishment including any term of incarceration, parole, supervision, period of probation, or have been pardoned); and
