A break of a major water line at one of Bellaire’s busiest intersections is wreaking havoc on local businesses and traffic Wednesday morning (Aug. 2).
City officials said it may take all day to make the repair at Bellaire Boulevard and South Rice Avenue, and they have closed the intersection and outlined detours for motorists (see accompanying map).
The intersection leads to Bellaire’s Civic Center, Condit ES and Bellaire HS, has a Transit Center serving the busy Metro lines through Bellaire and into the Texas Medical Center, and has the Bellaire Town Center mixed use commercial/office center — featuring a number of restaurants usually crowded at lunchtime. Two businesses in the center reported they were without water service, and the city said disruptions were possible.
