Several local nonprofit groups are asking people to donate clothing, house wares, food and new toys to benefit an organization that helps nearly 1,000 homeless adults and children.
The Star of Hope donation drive takes place Dec. 6 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd.
Edward Gardener, a member of the Houston CPA Society, has organized donation drives for the past 29 years. Throughout the history of the effort, the drive has helped to feed and clothe more than 231,000 people. Star of Hope has been involved for the past six years and is now the sole beneficiary.
Star of Hope serves homeless people by encouraging positive life changes through structured programs that focus on spiritual growth, education, employment, life management and recovery from substance abuse.
This year in addition to the Houston CPA Society, other non-profits are involved including B’nai B’rith, the Financial Planning Association, Temple Sinai Men’s Club and the Jewish Community Center.
