Ed Heathcott Announces Candidacy For West U City Council In May

December 2, 2010 by Essentials Staff 7 Comments

Ed and Renée Heathcott
West U resident Ed Heathcott told InstantNewsWestU today that he plans on running for city council in May.
Heathcott, a retired mechanical engineer, currently serves as a member of the Harris County Appraisal District Board of Directors and is a member of the Harris County Mayors and Councils Association. He also serves as an alternate for the West U Building and Standards Commission.
“I have an interest in the well being of West University,” Heathcott said. “I really believe in the small community.”
Heathcott has lived in West U with his wife Renée for the past three years and grew up in West U until he was 11 or 12 years old.
He graduated from Bellaire High School and Lamar University.
Heathcott served as the mayor of Jersey Village for six years and served as a council member for two years.
Some of the things Heathcott said he can bring to the position are his experience in city government, the time to give to the position and his work ethic.
“I have a track record for wanting to serve the community,” he said. “I just want to make the community I live in better.”
As an engineer, Heathcott said he’s “a problem solver” and will be able to make decisions that benefit the city in the long term.
“I don’t have an agenda coming in,” he said. “I am willing to serve and will handle each situation.”
Heathcott said his wife Renée, who is a retired educator, is supporting his decision to run for city council.
“It’s not just me serving, it’s my whole family,” he said.
The Heathcotts have one daughter and three grandchildren. They are active members of the West University Baptist Church, where they were married.
Heathcott said he enjoys fishing and hunting in his spare time and is a member of the Damon 7 Lakes Fishing Club. He enjoys salt water and bass fishing.

I like all the current council members, the idiot is the mayor. Isn’t he term limited?

West University: In the spirit of the season, I think you should apologize to Mayor Kelly and sign your name.

How long has Healthcott lived in West Univ.? Maybe the City would be better off with a resident that really has been involved in the City.

I am all in favor of having a problem-solving engineer on the council. I would hope for an improvement in the decision-making process, beginning with regular solicitations for taxpayer input.
