Supporters of The Emery/Weiner School gathered en masse to attend the eighth annual Joy of Education Dinner honoring Gary W. Stein recently. Chaired by Julie and Scott Silverman, the event raised more than $440,000 for Emery/Weiner’s general operating fund, surpassing fundraising goals and setting a new record for the event.
Stein, the dinner’s honoree, is an Emery/Weiner board member and parent, an active member of the community, president & CEO of Triple-S Steel Holdings, Inc, and chairman of ProservAnchor Crane Group. Stein and his wife Tracy Stein were 2006 Children’s Scholarship Ball Honorees and have three children: Sam, Ben, and Ellie, who all attend Emery/Weiner.
The dinner’s theme, “Building Dreams for Tomorrow,” was both a nod to Stein’s occupation and the ongoing campaign to expand Emery/Weiner’s facilities, in which Stein has taken a lead role as co-chairman of the Construction and Expansion Committee. As guests donned in “construction chic” attire entered, they were greeted by wait staff in hard hats and a taco truck serving food cocktails from Tony’s.
The silent and live auctions, chaired by Adele Croft, raised a combined total of more than $100,000. Auction items included trips to Napa Valley, New York and Hawaii, an opportunity to see The Oprah Show in Chicago, a diamond necklace and tickets to Dancing with the Stars.
