The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is offering an interactive art day for families to learn about the pottery traditions of many cultures. The event is April 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. and it is part of the museum’s Target Free First Sunday series.
Pottery All Around will immerse families into the pottery traditions of many cultures. Participants can create black-on-black pottery design inspired by the amazing pottery of Maria and Julian Martinez. The program teaches how potters create their art as attendees sketch, listen to stories and touch hands-on materials in the Pre-Columbian art gallery. The event also includes the screening of a short film The Pot That Juan Built, based upon the storybook about Juan Quezada, one of Mexico’s most famous potters.
