Feb. 9 The First Day To File For West U. City Council, Mayor

January 26, 2009 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The City of West University Place will hold a General Election on May 9.  Voters will vote for mayor and four council members to serve a two-year term of office.  Each position is at-large.

Current council members are Mayor Pro Tem Bob Fry, Phyllis Cohen, Michael Talianchich and Chuck Guffey. Cohen, on her second two-year term, is the only member who cannot run again for a council member position, but could run for mayor. Current Mayor Bob Kelly, on his first two-year term, has announced he will run again.

The first city business day when a candidate may file an application for a place on the ballot is Feb. 9.  The filing deadline is 5 p.m. on March 9.  Applications and accompanying documents may be obtained from the city secretary’s office in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Blvd.

April 9 is the last day for submitting voter registration applications in time to vote in this election or for requesting transfer of registration in time to vote in a new precinct.

For more information, contact City Secretary Thelma Lenz at 713-662-5813 or by e-mail at tlenz@westu.org.
