Editor:
I have been sent a copy of the article that Mason (Lerner) did (“Seeing red: Cindy Siegel’s emergence as a partisan political force,” Essentials summer 2023 edition).
Quite frankly I’m extremely disappointed and shocked about what has turned into a hit piece on me and the local gop versus how you presented it to me with your request.
I did this interview only because you asked me and we have known each other for decades (and I thought had a good relationship even if we did not always agree on every issue). I have always thought you strived for fair and accurate reporting. Instead this article is exactly the opposite.
For example, your reporter said that I have made statements such as gays being a cult. This is a lie.
Furthermore, the Harris County GOP has endorsed in recent years when approached by Republican candidates and after an in-depth interview process and then it is not a given that the party will endorse in a particular local race. In fact the local gop hasn’t endorsed at all in any Bellaire races while I personally endorsed someone last time who hadn’t voted Republican.
What is also curious is the fact that in several local races that the Harris County GOP has endorsed in the last two years- Democratic pacs sent out attack direct mail pieces in those same races. But yet there is no reference to that fact in the article.
Additionally Sam Somogye, Harris Cty GOP Comms Director, reached out to Mason after our interview to see if there were any follow up questions and was told no.
For an article about how partisan local races have become — this was a partisan article down to my bio pic done completely in red to look as inflammatory as possible.
Cindy (Siegel, Chair, Harris County Republican Party)
